Overview of the Project
We began our large-scale Byers, Colorado project in the summer of 1999. We are investigating the effects of biosolids application, at agronomic rates, on various crop rotations using no-till cultivation practices. Our current crop rotations are wheat-fallow, and wheat-corn-fallow. We applied biosolids in the summer of 1999 based on the nitrogen needs for crop being produced (i.e. – an agronomic rate). All portions of each rotation are recognized at any given time in the field. Becasue of poor crop production there has not been a need for nitrogen, so we were not able to apply biosolids between 2008 and 2012. In the Spring of 2012 we were able to resume the application of biosolids and inorganic nitrogen.
